September already...!

I can't believe where the year has gone. Though I have been busy this year with many different things, I still seem to have loads to do before the end of the year and time is constantly darting past me too fast. I finished my latest commission recently which I am very pleased with. The owners of the dogs are very happy with the final result and I will sending it off to them very shortly. Here is a picture of the final piece.

I have currently got a good list of commissions to complete before the Christmas period so I am already onto the next one, which is a surprise so therefore I will be unable to show this one until they have been given the portrait over Christmas. However, I have many more coming up, some of which I may be able to show updates on. Still also have intentions to complete some of my own original work also, which will be shown as when I fit them into the busy schedule.

Busy, busy bee!

So what feels like ages since I last posted an update, I have been very busy with a large commission which is going well and I will post an update of this as soon as I can. It's an A3 sized piece and is definitely taking some time, but so far completely worth it. I am really enjoying this one and look forward to sharing the finished product when I have had final approval. Have a couple of other surprise commissions on the list after this one, so won't be able to update those for a while but there are definitely arty things happening here. Following these, I am hoping to get the foals finished which I can't wait to see completed. Will keep plugging away and share updates and pictures as soon as possible. Stay tuned! :)

Foal No 1 Completed

I spent most of the weekend on this drawing and have completed the first foal in the set of 3. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I used Canson Mi Teines paper for this piece which I had not used before and I really liked it. Like the range of colours they provide and it seemed to work well for this particular piece, so hopefully the next two drawings will come out just as nicely.

So here is the first foal completed and I will hopefully have an update on the second foal very soon!

New Original Drawing!

So this week I have started a new original drawing, which will consist of 3 drawings altogether. After spending some time checking out possible reference photos, I have been quite inspired by foals and so this is the subject of my new drawing! I feel that it will be a nice piece to have complete before the spring arrives! I have so far completed the outline drawings for all 3 sections and have sized them up ready to lay down onto the final quality paper before the colour goes on. I am really looking forward to getting started with the colour on these 3. So here are the outlines at the first stage. I will post updates as I work through each stage!

Completed Portrait

I have now completed the portrait of Stevie which I am very happy with and I have had some lovely comments from a very happy client which I am very glad about. Always love to hear that my clients are happy with their portraits, that's a lot of the reason I enjoy drawing them so much! Thoroughly enjoyed this portrait, lovely to have another horse to draw. So here he is, the final photo of Stevie!

On a slightly different note, I am currently looking at getting some quality prints taken from the 'Wild Hare' drawing which appears to be quite popular. Will hopefully have an update on that soon and will then be making the prints available for sale. I will post an update on this as soon as I have more news. I have commissions coming up and I am also working on a few more original pieces so hopefully I will have lots more to share with you all very soon!

Drawing Updates and New Website!

So quite a few things have happened recently, I have finished my five year college course and qualified as a Chiropractor which is a huge achievement and I am very pleased to have completed the course. Life has therefore been very busy over the last few months hence the lack of updates on the drawing front.

However, drawings are back in full flow now and I have a couple of updates to share. Firstly, following my last post, the drawing of a hare, aptly named 'Wild Hare' is now complete. I am very pleased with how he turned out and has sparked a bit of an interest to do a few more wildlife based drawing in the future so watch this space for those. So here is the completed drawing.

The current commission on my drawing board is of 'Stevie' the horse and he is at this stage almost complete. Another few hours work will hopefully see him finished. I have enjoyed this one as he is a beautiful horse and I do love drawing horses so it's been really fun and I will look forward to having him complete and ready to send off to his owner. So here is a nearly complete photo of 'Stevie' and hopefully another update will follow very soon.

Busy 2013 and New Drawings

So 2013 has been pretty busy for me so far as I am now in my final year at college with dissertations and all sorts going on, it's been quite hard keeping up with all my art and providing updates and things, however I am finally now getting back on track with everything.

Have just recently finished a commission piece which I will post as soon as I am able to. I also have a few more commissions coming up which I am hoping I will able be able to post updates for as I go along. The next two I have coming up are lovely horses which I am really looking forward to as I haven't drawn any horses in a while, so those should be fun.

I also have a few original pieces lined up to complete. I am going down a slightly different route with these and taking on some different animals which should be interesting and fun. My first new piece is a Hare which so far I am really enjoying. I have used coloured pastel paper for this one for a change and have gone with a slightly looser style which I feel suits the nature of the piece, so I am interested to see how it turns out and what people think of it when it's complete.

Started this one a couple of days ago but have made quite good progress already. It's about 8" x 11" in size on sage green paper. So here is the latest update on this drawing and I will have more very soon.

Dressage Horse and Rider Finished

Have been working on this piece all weekend and finished it today after about 32 hours of drawing time. Really pleased with how it turned out and I think the overall composition works well. Quite enjoyed the fact that this piece was generally in the darker tonal ranges as it gave me an opportunity to push the boundaries of the tones a bit more than usual. Will be aiming to have this one framed up so I can see it with the mount as I had intended to have it bordered off at the edges. I think that will finish it off quite nicely.

Still thinking of a title for this one, but will ponder over for a while and hopefully come up with something soon. Will be moving onto something else next, not sure what that will be at the moment, but hopefully be something exciting and will hopefully have another update very soon!

Dressage Horse and Rider Update

Have been busy at work and with college revision so had a bit of a break from drawing, but i have spent some time this weekend drawing again. Have done around 17/18 hours work so far on this piece. Will be moving onto the rider next before finishing off the rest of the horse. Looking forward to seeing one finished. I am planning to border the edges straight rather than fading them out, hope this will frame the drawing nicely.

Will hopefully get more done on this one tomorrow and will have another update in the next day or so. Hope you like the update for now!

Drawing Update

Have been spending a bit of time each day on this latest drawing. It's going to take a good number of hours to complete this one, so bit by bit it's starting to take shape. Have spent around 7 hours on this one so far and liking how it's coming out at the moment. Think i will try and spend a bit more time on this tomorrow and get some good progress on the neck and the larger areas where there is less fiddly detail such as tack.

Dressage Horse and Rider

Have finally managed to find some time to start another drawing. Have been so busy with work, college and the horse recently, the art work has been put on the back burner a bit.

I was having a bit of trouble finding some inspiration for my next drawing and having found a great photo on DeviantArt of a dressage horse and rider, i drew up the initial line drawing over the weekend and started this piece last night. It's a graphite drawing on 12" x 9" Fabriano paper. I have spent around 3 hours drawing time on this piece so far, so it is still in the very early stages. I am looking forward to getting further into this drawing and to try and create the sense of elegance and power of the composition.

Winnie

Haven't updated on here in a while as i've been so busy with this latest piece which was a surprise wedding present, so wasn't able to post anything until now. The drawing was of a Cocker Spaniel x Poodle owned by some friends of ours who got married over Christmas. I finished this piece and had it framed in time for their reception on Saturday just gone. I was really pleased with this piece and really enjoyed drawing her. It took a while, i think between 30-35 hours, but well worth the effort i think.

So next on my list is to try and finish the race horses which has been put on hold again for commission work, and i also want to try and dig the acrylic paints out and have a go with these. May have some updates on these efforts at some point in the not too distant future. Also have a few wildlife photos on my list that i am looking at drawing so will try and make a start on these. My drawing 'wish list' is always increasing and all i need now is a dew more hours in each day to fit it all in!

Update on the Race Horses

Have managed to get a little more done on the racehorses though it's not a huge update as work has been keeping me pretty busy due to the new year start. Need to try and get back into the swing of drawing regularly in the evenings to get my pieces done more quickly. I have such a long list of 'to do' pieces in my head at the moment and all i need to do is find the time to do them! Seems there aren't enough hours in the day!

So anyway, here is the latest update. Hopefully will have another one soon! Also working on another little piece which i will probably post next week and have another commission piece coming up which i will be starting next week. I hope to post these others next week.

Christmas and New Drawings

Christmas is now over and done with for another year! I always feel like it goes really quickly, so much preparation and then it's over in a second! Had a great few days with the family and friends and have had a nice break from work and college. Not long now until it will all be in full swing again and i'll be dreaming for the next break!

I completed a commission of a horse which was a Christmas present and i delivered this two days beforehand. The lady loved the drawing and i had also had it framed for an extra special touch which looked great. I was so pleased that she liked it as i know both the lady and the horse and i found it quite important to get it exactly right, but i was very pleased with the outcome. Here are a couple of pictures of that commission.

So with Christmas over, it's time to move into the New Year with another drawing. This is one that i started some time ago, but due to commission work had to but on hold for a while. I am excited to finish this drawing now and will be getting onto this one next to try and complete as quickly as possible into the New Year.

I am really looking forward to completing lots more drawings in 2012 and hopefully having some more commission work to do, which i really enjoy! I'm sure i will also come up with a few New Year's resolutions also to try and improve my work and possibly get involved with other mediums. It will be a fun year for art!

Yesterday i finished another commission of a beautiful German Shepherd called Phoebe. I loved every minute of this drawing and had great reference photos which meant i could enjoy putting in as much detail as possible.

I have another piece to start now which i will post once i have completed it and sent it off to the owner! I am looking forward to the next piece and it's another large size drawing so it should be a nice one to do.

Can't believe it's only a couple of weeks until Christmas now, seems like this year has flown by. I am looking forward to the break to hopefully complete some unfinished drawings and get some new ones started, and possibly play with some different mediums and try and expand my range of drawing tools! In the meantime, i have Christmas dinners with friends coming up and a trip to Olympia which i am really looking forward to as i haven't been for years, so it's going to be a busy couple of weeks in the lead up to my favourite holiday!

Here is the finished drawing of Smiley and Ruddles. I am pleased with how the turned out, especially as the photos i was given weren't amazing quality, and enjoyed the challenge of drawing the four subjects on one piece. I am awaiting for confirmation that the drawing is okay and then it will be ready for signing to finish it completely.

I have another commission lined up now which is of a German Shepherd called Phoebe. This is going to be another 12" x 18" portrait with a smaller whole body picture added into the piece. It's going to be for a birthday present for the lady's husband and i am very excited about this one. She is a gorgeous dog and the photos i have been given to draw from are amazing quality which means i can really go to town with the detail and get all of her personality in the drawing.

Hopefully will be starting this one this week. I am going away for a week from Saturday and i'm hoping to take the drawing with me to keep going to make the deadline, don't think i'll have any problems spending hours and hours drawing her. So will hopefully have my first update of the new piece very soon!

Latest Commission

It's been a while since i've been able to post on here as i have been busy finishing college for the year and end of year exams make for very little drawing time! However, college is over until January now so i am in full drawing mode and have a commission on the go currently which i am about half way through.

This latest piece is of two terriers that unfortunately are no longer with us. The piece is of a portrait of each with a smaller full body drawing of each including on the same drawing. It's quite large at 12" x 18" and to date is the largest i have done. It's definitely a challenging piece being two very 'hairy type' dogs but i am enjoying it so far. I am using coloured pencil again for this piece on Fabriano paper.

I am going to start on the second dog this afternoon and hopefully aim to have the entire drawing finished by the end of the weekend. Unfortunately i am still scanner iliterate and so have not managed to take any decent close up's of the small drawing, but hopefully will be able to do this at a later stage when i have got the second small drawing done (and i finally work out how to use the scanner!). Will aim to post another update when i have made progress on the second portrait in the centre in a couple of days.

Update on Race Horses

It's been a while again since my last post as i have been busy with college stuff, exams and eventing my horse - all of which will be coming to an end at the end of October when college finishes and the eventing season is over. I will be sad to finish eventing until March next year, however this will give me lots of time to draw and hopefully finish up all of the items on my list of things waiting to be done! I still have a few exams coming up so will still be busy fitting in studying along with everything else as well as my drawings.

On a horse related note, me and Glider came 3rd at an Intro Championships at the weekend which was amazing and has really made my year! He was absolutely fanstastic and couldn't have gone better, so i am very proud of him and eager to get to our next event next week which is a Regional Final qualifier and i am hoping our luck will continue to that event with us too. Fingers crossed!

So i managed to get some more of the race horses drawing this week and have another update. It's not a huge update, but i am taking my time over this one as i am enjoying it. This progress shot is at about 12 hours of drawing with lots still to do. I am hoping to try and continue drawing each night this week when i have some spare time. So hopefully i will have more progress updates to come this week.

New Drawing

I have been somewhat off the radar here for a while, been very busy with the horse and finishing up college stuff before the year is over, so haven't been doing as much drawing as i would like! However, i have started another drawing of a couple of racehorses. This is a slightly new type of drawing for me as recently i have stuck mainly with portrait stuff, however i wanted a challenge and something a little different. So it's about an A4 sized piece done in coloured pencil. Only in the early stages at the moment and this picture shown is of about 8 hours worth of work. Unfortunately not a brilliant scan and so will try and get a better one on the next update, it looks much glossier and less grainy on paper.

I have also got another commission lined up which i will be starting on this weekend, currently waiting for some new paper to arrive and so i am going to get the drawing done and ready to transfer onto the more quality paper when it arrives. It's going to be a big portrait piece of two terriers head and shoulders with a smaller full body drawing for each on around 12 x 16 sized paper. Looking forward to this larger drawing and hopefully the paper will come early next week so i can get started.

Will hopefully be working on the racehorses over the weekend so will try and post another update early next week.

Womble Finished

Last night, i ended up getting back early from a very successful evening jumping with Glider so i got onto finishing my drawing of Womble. Really pleased with how it turned out and i think i am going to get this one framed for the wall at home, something i haven't done with any of my drawings yet, so that's pretty exciting to be hopefully see it in our house on display at some point.
